A fragrance dupe is an independently formulated perfume from its own brand, built to smell similar to a well-known designer or niche scent — sold under its own name, at a fraction of the price. Dupes are not counterfeits: a counterfeit tries to pass itself off as the real product, using the original’s branding and packaging illegally. A dupe is upfront about what it is, marketed honestly as “inspired by” a specific fragrance rather than pretending to be it.
